Emotions and feelings in human cognition (Antonio Damasio).

Damasio highlights the role of brain structures like the amygdala in generating emotional responses. - Emotions have an evolutionary adaptive function. They prepare the body to respond to challenges or opportunities in the environment. For example, the emotion of fear prepares an organism to deal with a threat.

 

2. Somatic Marker Hypothesis: Damasio introduced the Somatic Marker Hypothesis, which suggests that emotions and bodily states serve as "somatic markers" that guide decision-making. These markers help individuals anticipate the emotional consequences of different actions and guide them toward advantageous choices.

3. Neural Basis of Emotion: Damasio has conducted research to identify specific brain regions involved in the processing of emotions. He emphasizes the role of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and the amygdala in emotional and decision-making processes.
